About
Also known as: Anthony Buck, Anthony S Buck
Tony Buck is the drummer and percussionist who has anchored The Necks since 1987, the Australian trio he co founded with Chris Abrahams and Lloyd Swanton. A graduate of the New South Wales Conservatorium of Music, he came up in the Australian jazz scene, playing in groups like Great White Noise and Women and Children First alongside saxophonist Sandy Evans. Beyond The Necks, he leads Peril, a band he formed in Japan with Otomo Yoshihide and Kato Hideki, plus a spin off called astroPeril. In the early 1990s he also fronted L'Beato, a short lived industrial leaning outfit that sounded a bit like Tackhead and left behind one EP, The Piston Song. After moving from Australia to Amsterdam and later Berlin, he kept collaborating widely, including on Knoxville with Christian Fennesz and David Daniell, and Flatbosc & Cautery with Frank Gratkowski, Achim Kaufmann and Wilbert De Joode.
