About

Also known as: Trevor David Pinnock, トレバー・ピノック, トレバー・ピノッリ, トレヴァー・ピノック

Trevor Pinnock is the harpsichordist who helped drag baroque music out of its modern instrument phase. He started out in the late 1960s with the Galliard Harpsichord Trio, playing baroque repertoire on modern instruments, then decided that route had run its course. In 1972 the trio grew into The English Concert, a period instrument orchestra he led from the keyboard for more than 30 years. Leonard Bernstein said his Bach and Handel made him jump out of his seat. Pinnock played in the very first performance of Rameau's last opera, Les Boréades, and took The English Concert to the Proms, North America and well beyond. Since leaving the orchestra in 2003 he has kept busy as a conductor with major orchestras and opera companies, plus solo and chamber harpsichord work. He also led the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Canada and founded The Classical Band in New York. His Bach Brandenburg Concertos with the European Brandenburg Ensemble, put together for his 60th birthday, won a Gramophone Award.
