About
Trio Asempa blends jazz, soul and world music into something that leans on melody, rhythm and a good deal of improvisation. It's a three piece with a lot of ground between them. Nadine Nix is a Belgian singer, composer and multi instrumentalist who trained in classical percussion and voice at conservatoires in Maastricht, Amsterdam and Enschede. Her taste for world music comes partly from traveling and teaching in places like Congo, Nepal and Greece, and she also works on cross over projects, theatre and dance. Guitarist and singer songwriter Frank Peeters, a Dutchman living in Antwerp, studied at the conservatoire in Hilversum and plays across pop, soul, funk and jazz. Pianist and composer Mike Roelofs, a Maastricht conservatoire graduate, is known around Europe as a specialist in vintage keyboards: Hammond organ, Fender Rhodes and Wurlitzer. His improvising and distinctive sound give the trio a good share of its character.
