Trkaj, real name Rok Terkaj, is a Slovenian rapper who came up through the freestyle battle scene and turned early competition wins into a proper recording career. In 2003 he took the 8 Mile freestyle battle championship and then co won the 2nd Slovenian Freestyle Championship with fellow rapper N'toko, landing a record deal with RapNika in the process. His debut album V času enga diha followed in 2004 and sold well, even if critics noted he had reworked plenty of tracks that fans already knew from online demos. His second album Rapostol, eventually released in December 2007 after label complications pushed it back by nearly two years, earned him the Slovenian music award Diamant for best male performer in 2009. Beyond the studio, Trkaj has never been one to stay still: he walked the Camino de Santiago, hiked from Ljubljana to Sarajevo, and ran a tour of Styrian towns on foot to promote rap and the region, picking up the top prize at the Slovenian Marketing Festival for the effort.
