Tulipa Ruiz Chagas calls her sound "forest pop", and that label actually fits: her music sits somewhere in the MPB tradition but with its own quietly strange personality. Her 2010 debut Efêmera landed to serious critical praise, and its title track ended up on the FIFA 11 soundtrack, giving her an unexpectedly wide audience. Each album since has pushed into new territory: Tudo Tanto earned her a Multishow Brazilian Music Award and an APCA Award, while Dancê went even further and picked up a Latin Grammy. She has a knack for interesting collaborations too. She appeared on rapper Emicida's debut album in 2013, then worked with former Titãs member Nando Reis on his solo record Jardim Pomar in 2016. Her 2017 album Tu features Mexican musician Adan Jodorowsky, son of filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky. Most recently, Habilidades Extraordinárias came out in September 2022. On top of all the music, she also creates visual art, including illustrations for magazines, album covers and concert posters.
