Also known as: Guido Hoppe
Guido Hoppe, better known as Typecell, has been shaping the underground drum and bass scene in Germany since the early days of the genre. Originally performing as DJ P.M.C. from around 1992, he shifted into production in 1996, releasing tracks on his own Genetic Rhythm Records before spreading his output across labels like Bonzai Records and Red Alert Records. The Typecell alias came about in 2000 as a dedicated outlet for more experimental work, fusing techno sensibilities with drum and bass energy. Rather than chasing mainstream attention, Hoppe built his reputation through mix tapes and a steady run of vinyl, CD and mp3 releases within the underground circuit. Around 2002 he launched Protogen Records, a label built around a forward thinking, club ready drum and bass sound. His work sits comfortably in darker, more technical corners of the genre, earning him a spot among the key names in darkstep.
