About
Also known as: Валентина Лисиця
Valentina Lisitsa built her career the unconventional way, flooding YouTube with piano performances long before streaming was a standard career move. By mid 2012 she had racked up nearly 50 million views, making her one of the most watched pianists on the platform, and her Chopin etudes topped Amazon's classical video chart while becoming the most viewed Chopin etude collection online. That grassroots momentum was enough to land her a deal with Decca Records just before her Royal Albert Hall debut in 2012. Her repertoire leans heavily on the Russian romantic tradition. She recorded Rachmaninoff concertos with the London Symphony Orchestra, funded out of her own savings, and has played Rachmaninoff's complete piano concertos across two evenings with the Sofia Philharmonic at Bulgaria Hall. Alongside solo work, she has collaborated in recital with violinist Hilary Hahn, including a recording of the four Charles Ives violin and piano sonatas released on Deutsche Grammophon. Her career has not been without controversy: the Toronto Symphony canceled her 2015 appearances over political posts she made during the Russo Ukrainian War.
