About
Valentine Blangé is a violinist who works across a wide span of repertoire, from medieval music to contemporary composition. Together with cellist Simon Velthuis, she forms a duo focused on blending their two instruments into a single shared sound, pursuing what they describe as an intense musical conversation built on subtle dynamics and deep mutual attunement. Their programme stretches from the medieval melodies of Hildegard von Bingen through Ravel's demanding Sonata for violin and cello to present day works, including Pēteris Vasks and Barbara Strozzi. Blangé also composes: her piece Rhonda features in the duo's repertoire alongside these established works. She has arranged several of the older pieces together with Velthuis, giving the programme a personal and cohesive shape across roughly a thousand years of music.
