About
Rob van Bavel is a Dutch jazz pianist with a seriously impressive track record. He took second prize at the Thelonious Monk Jazz Piano Competition in the United States shortly after graduating with the highest distinction, and back home he won the Wessel Ilcken Award and an Edison for his recording Rob van Bavel Trio. Additional prizes followed in Germany and Belgium. His discography runs to more than 200 albums, both as a leader and as a sideman, and he has shared stages with figures like Randy Brecker, Johnny Griffin, Chet Baker and Woody Shaw. Alongside performing, he spent years teaching piano at the conservatories of Amsterdam and The Hague and gave masterclasses across Europe and beyond.
