About
Van Zelf started as the solo project of singer songwriter Ruud Versteden, who had already built a reputation through his work with DJINNS and The Waiting. Over time it grew into a four piece band based in Leudal, weaving together indie americana, alt country and pop in a sound that is both dynamic and layered. Unusually, the band writes in two languages, mixing Limburgs dialect with English. Their debut album, also called Van Zelf, was followed by Late Bloomer, a fully English language record recorded in part at Abbey Road Studios in London. If you're trying to place their sound, think Ryan Adams or The War on Drugs, with a nod to Arno Adams.
