About
Also known as: Senetian Vnares, Snares, Venetian Shares, vsnares
Venetian Snares is the main alias of Winnipeg based Canadian electronic musician Aaron Funk, and few producers have shaped breakcore as fundamentally as he has. His signature sound leans hard on impossibly intricate drum programming, wildly eclectic sampling, and odd time signatures, with 7/4 being a particular obsession. His prolific run through the early 2000s saw him releasing several albums a year across labels like Planet Mu, Hymen, and Sublight, often under multiple aliases including Last Step and Speed Dealer Moms. The 2005 album Rossz Csillag Alatt Született remains his most celebrated work, weaving breakbeats through orchestral strings and trumpets inspired by a trip to Hungary. Critics called it his most accomplished record, and it helped pull both Funk and breakcore into wider attention within the experimental electronic community. Alongside hardcore and glitch, he has also explored modern classical, acid techno, IDM, and even dubstep tinged Black Sabbath covers, proving that restlessness is as core to his identity as any single genre.
