Villa Rosie

About

Villa Rosie is a North Holland band, partly from Haarlem, that writes songs in Dutch with a real feel for storytelling. Miranda Zuurbier sings and plays accordion, Michel de Wit is on guitar, Vincent Lamers on double bass, and Marian Huiberts handles sax and percussion. A guest musician often joins them on stage, and a drummer is sometimes part of that mix. The music sits somewhere between Dutch chanson and theatre song, though not because anyone chose a style off a menu. Each song simply takes the shape it needs. The lyrics are personal and narrative, touching on love and loss, people met along the way, and memories that refuse to fade. They can be light or heavy, but they stay honest. The sound moves easily between colours and rhythms, so a classical opening might drift into a South American pulse, or a melancholy tune might suddenly start to dance.
