About
Vincent van Amsterdam is an accordionist who treats the instrument as far more than a folk or musette machine. He has won plenty of national and international competitions, and in 2025 he picked up the Nederlandse Muziekprijs, the highest honour the Dutch state gives to a classical musician working in the Netherlands. He sees himself as a kind of ambassador for how versatile the accordion can be, and his repertoire shows it. Bach and Grieg sit comfortably next to Piazzolla in his programmes, so classical and nuevo tango meet on the same stage. One review in Trouw noted how colourful his playing is, with the sound sometimes recalling an organ, a harpsichord or a piano.
