VKSO, het orkest van de Veenkoloniën is a seventy piece symphony orchestra conducted by Lubertus Leutscher. The ensemble focuses on orchestral repertoire that connects with broad audiences, with a particular affinity for film and musical theatre music. Their programmes draw on the work of composers such as John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Howard Shore, John Powell, Yann Tiersen and Richard Wagner, spanning everything from Jurassic Park and Harry Potter to The Lord of the Rings and How to Train Your Dragon. Wagner's overture to Der fliegende Holländer has also featured in their concerts, showing a range that goes well beyond the purely cinematic. They regularly collaborate with guest soloists and performers to bring extra colour to their programmes.
