About
Voces Suaves is a choir based in Basel whose work centres on early music, particularly the Baroque repertoire. The ensemble has been described as award winning and brings together ten solo voices, a combination that gives their sound a rare flexibility and clarity. Their programming tends to pair major works with contextual pieces from the same period, letting the music speak within its own historical world. One of their signature projects is a focus on Lenten repertoire, including the Salve Regina by Alessandro Scarlatti and the Stabat Mater by his son Domenico, a ten voice work widely regarded as one of the most remarkable choral pieces of the Baroque era. Previous programmes have also drawn on the music of Bach, Handel and Purcell, showing the breadth of their engagement with seventeenth and eighteenth century vocal music.
