About
Also known as: Vtoroi Ka
Vtoroi Ka, which translates roughly as '2nd K', are a duo from Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, consisting of old friends Ilya and Sultan. They started out in 2017 and moved through several sonic territories before finding a wider audience: their first album Dependence Day (2020) leaned into hip hop, while the follow up Serial (2022) was more eclectic. It was their third album, Piggy Ride, released on Infinity Music, that broke them open, racking up around 200,000 monthly Spotify listeners and 200,000 Instagram followers within two years, with some reels pulling in up to four million views. Their post punk angle draws frequent comparisons to Baxter Dury, but Vtoroi Ka resist being pinned down to any one sound. The Po Gube EP pushed further still, trading guitar driven texture for rave centric beats and pop hooks, with the title track described by the duo themselves as a sonic portrait of city nights, temptation and decay. Sharp, funny music videos shot in the mountains around Bishkek are as much a part of their appeal as the music, earning them fans across Central Asia, Russia and Russian speaking communities worldwide.
