About
WAAX are a Brisbane post punk band who built their reputation on raw, loud guitar music and a fiercely charismatic frontwoman in Marie "Maz" DeVita. Their single "Labrador" hit number one on Brisbane radio station 4ZZZ's Hot 100 in 2018 and later landed in Triple J's Hottest 100 of 2018, cementing their place as one of Australian rock's most compelling live acts. They have shared stages with Biffy Clyro and Fall Out Boy, and their debut album Big Grief entered the ARIA Charts at number 11 on release in 2019. The band's road has been anything but smooth. Lineup changes, a headline grabbing onstage incident during a 2019 Newcastle show, and a 2023 hiatus announcement all tested them. But DeVita refused to let it end there, announcing later that same year she would carry WAAX forward as its sole member. Their second album At Least I'm Free followed in 2022, and a third, Angel's Mess, arrived in 2026.
