About
Waveshaper is the project of Swedish synthwave producer Tom Andersson, who builds his sound around a serious collection of vintage hardware: the ARP 2600, Roland Jupiter 4, and Korg MS 20 all get a workout. The result is a retrofuturistic aesthetic that draws clear lines back to Jean Michel Jarre, Kraftwerk, and Daft Punk, filtered through the kind of 80s movie soundtrack energy that defined a whole era of synth music. His debut album Tracks To The Future came out in 2013 on Lunar Boogie, and he followed it with the EP Sounds That Kill on Telefuture Records in 2014, then the four track vinyl Solar Drifter on Swedish label Rad Rush Records in 2015. Beyond his own releases, he contributed to the soundtrack for the game Furi and appeared in the 2019 documentary The Rise of the Synths, which charted the whole synthwave movement with narration from John Carpenter himself.
