About
Three former Evanescence members, guitarist Ben Moody, guitarist John LeCompt, and drummer Rocky Gray, teamed up with Irish vocalist Carly Smithson and bassist Marty O'Brien to form We Are the Fallen in Los Angeles in 2009. Smithson had previously caught Moody's attention through an online video of her covering Evanescence's "Bring Me to Life" on American Idol, which happened to be the exact song every singer used to audition for the band. Signed to Universal Republic Records, they released their debut album Tear the World Down in May 2010. The sound sits in the heavier end of alternative rock with gothic metal undertones, and while comparisons to Evanescence were inevitable, Moody pushed back on that, pointing out that he and Amy Lee had essentially invented that genre in the first place. The band gave their final performance in January 2011 and have been quiet since.
