Weedeater have been dragging Wilmington, North Carolina's heaviest riffs into the world of sludge and stoner metal since 1998, built around the singular presence of Dave "Dixie" Collins on vocals and bass. Collins originally planned the band as a side project while fronting Buzzoven, but once Buzzoven folded he threw everything into Weedeater, and the results speak for themselves across five albums of crushing, weed soaked doom. Their recording history reads like a medical log: Collins accidentally shot off one of his big toes while cleaning a shotgun mid session, leading to a tour cheekily renamed the "Nine Toe" tour. Their most recent album Goliathan came out in 2015, recorded with longtime collaborator Steve Albini in Chicago. Behind the kit things have been turbulent too, with drummer Carlos Denogean passing away in 2018 after just a year in the band. Through all of it, Collins and guitarist Dave "Shep" Shepherd have kept the thing rolling.
