About
One of the earliest East Coast thrash metal acts, Whiplash has been grinding since 1984, built almost entirely around guitarist and vocalist Tony Portaro, the sole surviving original member. Their debut Power and Pain dropped on Roadrunner Records in 1986 and helped put New Jersey on the thrash map, right around the time drummer Tony Scaglione briefly stepped out to fill in for Dave Lombardo in Slayer during the Reign in Blood tour. The band has split and reformed more than once, cycling through lineups but always pulling back together. After reuniting in 2009 and hitting festivals like Wacken Open Air, they kept touring hard through Europe and the Americas. They signed to Metal Blade Records in 2018, and after a long wait their album Thrashquake arrived as their first studio record in seventeen years.
