Wilbert Bulsink

About

Wilbert Bulsink is a composer who writes for string quartet, and he likes to draw his ideas from painting. For one project he took the work of the Canadian painter Guido Molinari as his starting point and wrote a four movement string quartet around the playful side of those canvases. That piece sat alongside a companion quartet by the Canadian composer Denis Gougeon, who looked to Piet Mondriaan instead. The two works were written for Quatuor Molinari and paired with live visuals by the artist Udo Prinsen, who mixes hand made animation with images driven by the quartet's playing. Bulsink's writing, like the rest of that programme, plays with rhythm, contrast and the way we perceive music.
