Windwaker

About

Named after the Legend of Zelda game, Windwaker are a Melbourne metalcore band whose sound has never really stood still. Since forming in 2014, they have cycled through lineup changes, switching vocalists, adding keyboards, and steadily leveling up their reach, from club shows to festival slots at Download Festival Melbourne and a national triple j Unearthed competition win. Their Fearless Records debut came in a fairly bold way: a metalcore cover of Britney Spears' "Toxic" that signaled just how wide they were willing to cast their net. Their first full album Love Language arrived in 2022, followed in 2024 by their second record Hyperviolence, with recent visualizers for tracks like "Infinity" and "Apathy" suggesting the band is still actively rolling out material from it. Current vocalist Liam Guinane actually started out as a guitarist in the band, left to focus on another project, then came back to take over lead vocal duties after original singer Will King stepped away to study psychology. It is that kind of winding, unpredictable trajectory that makes Windwaker genuinely hard to pin down.
