About
Also known as: Jermaine Sinclaire Scott
Wretch 32, born Jermaine Sinclaire Scott, came out of Tottenham's grime scene as part of the collective Combination Chain Gang before linking up with Scorcher, Ghetts and Mercston to form The Movement. His second album, Black and White, was the real breakthrough: three top five singles, over a million sales, and a number one on the UK Singles Chart with "Don't Go" featuring Josh Kumra. "Unorthodox" with Example sampled The Stone Roses' "Fools Gold" and hit number two, while "Traktor" kicked things off by debuting at number five. He's not just a chart name either. In 2012 Adidas put him front and centre for their London Olympics campaign, and Coca Cola had him following the Olympic Torch Relay down the south coast. That same year he picked up Best International Artist at the BET Awards. His third studio album Growing Over Life brought collaborators like Shakka and Jacob Banks into the fold, showing a taste for melodic, soulful sounds alongside his grime roots.
