About
Xillan, full name Xillan Macrooy, works across music, literature and theatre as a Surinamese Dutch storyteller. His artistic practice circles around identity, transformation and resistance, weaving together personal and cultural narratives into a distinctive voice that is hard to pin to a single discipline. His triptych project COMING OF (R)AGE brings together a debut novel, a debut theatre production and a debut album called SON. The album sits in avant garde pop territory, confrontational and poetic at once, and runs through themes of resistance as an ode to anyone searching for light despite difficult circumstances. On it, Xillan reflects on a changing world and his own place within it, drawing on Surinamese queer legacy alongside a push toward artistic innovation.
