Yana Couto, born Zuzanna Matuszewska in Poland, makes the kind of piano music that sits somewhere between minimalism and Slavic romanticism, wrapped in acoustic textures, synthesizers, and layered vocals. Her debut album Colors came out in 2014 with nine original solo piano compositions, and she followed it up with the instrumental EP Cities the next year. From there she kept widening her scope, moving into ensemble work, orchestral pieces, and music for theater and visual media. Her sophomore album The Great Hope, recorded in her living room on a Bruno Sommerfeld piano during the COVID 19 pandemic, helped push her streaming numbers past 25 million plays and landed her a spot as a global ambassador for Spotify's EQUAL campaign. She has also teamed up with producer OS.SO on the concept album Isolde, and her catalog of collaborations stretches from singer Wiktor Dyduła to Banduragirl.
