About
Yerai Cortés is one of the names people point to when they talk about where flamenco guitar is heading. He cut his teeth in Madrid's tablaos, playing rooms like Las Carboneras, Villa Rosa, Casa Patas and Corral de la Morería, then moved on to theaters such as the Teatro de Bellas Artes in Madrid and the Teatro Lope de Vega in Seville. Along the way he has accompanied the likes of La Negra, La Tana, Richard Bona, Farruquito and Chuchito Valdés, mixing flamenco with other genres as he went. His profile got a big lift from working with C. Tangana, whom he backed on the Sin cantar ni afinar tour. In 2021 he won the Guitarra con Alma award at the Jerez Festival for his part in Rocío Molina's Al Fondo Riela. He also composes and produces, and in 2024 he starred in a documentary directed by Antón Álvarez (C. Tangana), shown at the San Sebastián International Film Festival. A Latin Grammy nomination for Best New Artist followed in 2025.
