Yevgeny Sudbin has built a reputation as one of the more quietly formidable pianists working today, known for his deeply considered recordings of Russian and European repertoire. Born in St. Petersburg, he trained under Christopher Elton at the Purcell School and the Royal Academy of Music, and also received guidance from heavyweights like Murray Perahia, Leon Fleisher, and Stephen Hough. For the BIS label he has recorded works by Scarlatti, Scriabin, Rachmaninov, Medtner, and others, each release tending to draw attention for its intelligence and interpretive depth. His Proms debut came in July 2008, and in 2010 he was appointed visiting professor of piano at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He has performed in prestigious series alongside the likes of Martha Argerich and Evgeny Kissin, and contributed to the inaugural recording for the Tippet Rise Festival in 2017, alongside Christopher O'Riley and Matt Haimovitz.
