Yo Yo Honey Singh, born Hirdesh Singh, started out as a hip hop producer in the underground music scene before becoming one of the most recognisable names in Indian popular music. His track 'Lak 28 Kudi Da' with Diljit Dosanjh hit number one on the BBC Asian Download Charts in 2011, and by 2012 he was reportedly the highest paid artist for a Bollywood song, pocketing around 7 million rupees for work on Cocktail and Mastan. Videos like 'Brown Rang' and 'High Heels' with Jaz Dhami were among YouTube's top trending that year, and party anthems such as 'Angreji Beat' and 'Blue Eyes' kept him firmly in the spotlight. His 2014 album Desi Kalakaar, featuring Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha in the title track's video, showed how seamlessly he bridged Punjabi bhangra, hip hop and mainstream Bollywood. In 2024 he released Glory, an 18 track album with 'Millionaire', 'Rap God' and 'Jatt Mehkma' among its songs, landing multiple tracks on streaming charts. A Netflix documentary, Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous, followed later that year.
