About
Young Widows rose from the ashes of mathcore band Breather Resist. When the singer left, guitarist Evan Patterson and bassist Nick Thieneman took over vocals, went into the studio in 2006, and realised the sound had changed so much that a new name made sense. Their debut, Settle Down City, came out on Jade Tree that same year, before they settled in at Temporary Residence Limited for the rest of their run. The Louisville trio has never been in a hurry to repeat itself. Old Wounds followed in 2008, then a series of four split 7 inches with Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Melt Banana, Pelican and My Disco, whose covers join up into one big picture. In and Out of Youth and Lightness pushed them toward quieter, gothic tinged noise rock, and Easy Pain landed in 2014. Their fifth album, Power Sucker, arrived in March 2025. Along the way they have shared stages with Pelican, Russian Circles, Daughters and La Dispute.
