About
Zeca Baleiro has a knack for the unexpected: his debut album Por Onde Andará Stephen Fry? named itself after the moment British actor Stephen Fry vanished from a West End production in 1995 following bad reviews, which tells you a lot about how this São Luís born MPB artist operates. That record, along with his second album Vô Imbolá, both went gold, and he took home a Latin Grammy for best pop album in 2000. His music sits comfortably across MPB, Brazilian rock, samba and pop, moving between styles with a relaxed confidence. Over a career spanning more than two decades, Zeca has built up a sprawling discography that includes duets collections, live albums and collaborations with artists like Raimundo Fagner and Vinícius Cantuária. His song Salão de Beleza made it onto Putumayo World Music's Reggae Around the World compilation, giving him an international audience. More recently, his collaborative album with Chico César was named one of the 50 best albums of 2024 by the São Paulo Art Critics Association.
