Jazz at The Crow

Fifth NRE sits on the former NRE site in the centre of Eindhoven, at Gasfabriek 5. The grounds date back to 1858, when the first gas factory in the city opened here. For roughly a century the plant was the basis of Eindhoven's energy supply. The original buildings were designed by Louis J.P. Kooken (1867 to 1940), founder of De Bever Architecten, who gave the gas factory a distinct architectural quality. That same firm later converted the industrial heritage into a contemporary centre, while Designstudio Planq handled the concept, interior design and furniture. The result is often described as a new concept in an old jacket, tucked into a quiet corner of a busy city. Under one industrial roof, Fifth combines five separate concepts, each with its own design and atmosphere. The Main is a restaurant and bar with live music. The Stage is an event hall with a bar, used for entertainment and larger gatherings. The Bar focuses on drinks and bites, The Roast is a specialty coffee roastery, and The Room is a private space for business and social occasions. Dining here ranges from breakfast and lunch to dinner, and there is a terrace outside. Music is a clear part of the identity. The programme leans towards jazz, soul and funk, and the venue has also been listed under blues and lounge. The Main has been called a jazz club in architectural write ups, and live sets are a regular feature on weekend evenings. Setlist records show concerts here by acts such as Gallowstreet in 2020 and Moonchild in 2022. The acoustics have been given extra attention, which suits a listening oriented crowd. Beyond concerts, the halls are also rented out for business events and private occasions.
