Adult DVD announces debut album with new single Cowboy On Aisle Three

Adult DVD, the electropunk band from Leeds who are increasingly being talked about as one of the most exciting new names on the British alternative scene, have announced their self titled debut album. The record comes out on September 25 via Fat Possum, the label they signed to earlier this year. Alongside the announcement, the band dropped their new single "Cowboy On Aisle Three" along with an accompanying music video.

The idea for the track came from a pretty mundane place. Frontman Harry Hanson explains: "I came up with the idea when I was in Lidl. I'm sure everyone has thought, 'Imagine if I just went nuts now,' to get out of doing the big shop." That feeling, instantly recognisable to anyone who has ever dragged themselves around a supermarket, became a song that sounds like a burst of controlled madness. Synth player Greg Lonsdale adds: "We don't take things too seriously. The lyrics have got sillier, the songs have got sillier. We make music for people to enjoy, so let them have a laugh."

Musically, "Cowboy On Aisle Three" fits right in with the approach the band introduced earlier this year on "Real Tree Lee," the single that marked the start of their partnership with Fat Possum. The basic formula is the same: psychedelic tinged synths, pounding bass, a rock solid rhythm section and Hanson's raw, spat out vocals. Yet again though, the new track sounds just a little sharper and more infectious than what came before, with a structure that tears from one climax to the next and a psychedelic layer that adds extra depth to the whole thing.

The debut album features twelve tracks, including earlier single "Real Tree Lee" and the new track sitting at number six. The remaining titles include names like "Coffin Dodger," "Jesus Christ Supercar," "The Steaks Are High" and "Worlds Best Boss," which gives you a pretty good sense of the record's vibe: tongue firmly in cheek, but with a musical sharpness that goes well beyond pure irony. The band produced the album entirely themselves.

For anyone who wants to catch them live, there are two nearby options coming up. On July 18, Adult DVD play the Belgian festival Dour, and on Tuesday November 10 the band bring a club show to Le Botanique in Brussels. Both dates are well worth it for Dutch fans who want to understand the hype around this British four piece before the debut album arrives.
