James Blunt returns to Ziggo Dome with new album Airplane Mode

James Blunt is coming to the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam on Saturday, February 20, 2027. The show is part of a European tour the British singer is doing in support of his eighth studio album, Airplane Mode, which comes out on November 6. It won't be his first time at the Netherlands' biggest concert venue either. His last visit, on March 4, 2025, saw Blunt sell the Ziggo Dome out completely.

Blunt himself calls Airplane Mode his strongest work in twenty years. Soundwise, the album draws on the warm, acoustic pop he was making in the late nineties and early 2000s, a period when artists like David Gray, Coldplay and The Verve were big influences on him. It pairs his signature melodic hooks with nostalgic storytelling and carries, in his own words, the same emotional weight fans recognized on his iconic debut album Back to Bedlam, while still pushing his sound forward in a modern pop direction. The first two singles, Tastes Like Summer and Weight Of It All, are already out.

Blunt broke through in 2004 with Back to Bedlam, which featured hits like You're Beautiful and Goodbye My Lover. The album reached number one around the world, including across much of Europe. In the Netherlands it peaked at number two on the album chart and went platinum with more than 80,000 copies sold. Singles like 1973, Stay The Night and Bonfire Heart followed, all of which also made an international impact. In total he has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide, and You're Beautiful has now been streamed over a billion times on Spotify, putting him in a very small group of artists to have crossed that milestone.

The 52 year old singer has quite an unusual background: before launching his music career, he served as an officer in the British Army. As a live performer he is known for his musical craftsmanship, strong melodies and a distinctly British sense of self deprecating humour. He is a two time Brit Award winner and has received five Grammy Award nominations. Dutch fans who want to catch him live at the Ziggo Dome would be wise to act fast, given that his previous show at the same venue sold out completely.
