Stryper announces eighteenth studio album and hits the road on tour

American Christian metal band Stryper has announced their eighteenth studio album. Titled Throne of Thorns, it's set for release on September 25, 2026 through Frontiers Music. Alongside the announcement, the band shared the title track, complete with an official music video. For a band that has been active for 43 years, this is yet another testament to their remarkable productivity and staying power.

The title track pairs a heavy guitar riff with a notably melodic solo that, with its theatrical and flamboyant style, draws comparisons to Queen. Frontman Michael Sweet explains the meaning behind the track: "'Throne of Thorns' is a powerful message. Christ is on the throne, and we are redeemed because of the crown of thorns that He endured. This song is a perfect representation of our 43 years and who we were, and who we are. Heavy yet melodic, classic yet modern, and 100% Stryper!" The religious message has always been at the heart of everything Stryper does, and this new record is no different.

Drummer Robert Sweet speaks about the album with obvious pride: "Soon our new Stryper record will be out, and can you believe it? It's album number 18! I really believe you're all going to love it. Michael worked incredibly hard writing these songs and bringing everything together. Oz, Perry, and I also worked hard to make this, what I feel is our best record yet. I'm confident that once you hear it, you'll agree. Thank you all for your incredible loyalty and for continuing to support what we do." Guitarist Oz Fox adds: "I'm really happy with the final outcome of this record and of the heart that went into it. Michael continues to pour everything he has into the music and the message; Robert brings the power and energy that has always been the pulse of Stryper; Perry's musicianship, vocal talents, and dedication are second to none, and I'm grateful to be on this journey with all of them."

The album contains eleven tracks, including the title song as well as Here In Your Heart, Carry The Flame, Beautifully Broken, and the closing track Shadowbreaker. Bassist Perry Richardson describes the inspiration behind the record: "The best music doesn't come from comfort. It comes from living, struggling, growing, and refusing to quit. I hope these songs find you exactly when you need them."

In addition to the album, Stryper has also announced an extensive tour across the United States. The summer run kicks off on July 17 in Arlington, Texas, with further shows in Houston and San Antonio. On September 19, the band will also appear at the Loud and Proud Festival 2026 in Wissen, Germany, giving European fans their closest chance to catch the band live. That's followed by an extensive fall tour starting September 29 in Derry, New Hampshire, and wrapping up October 25 in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. A show in San Juan, Puerto Rico is also scheduled for December 5. Throne of Thorns follows the Christmas album The Greatest Gift of All, which the band released in November 2025, also through Frontiers Music.
