About
The Remonstrantse Kerk is a 17th century hidden church located in Alkmaar's old center, built in 1658 on the site of a former wooden structure where worshippers gathered in secret. The interior features wooden barrel vaulting, three sided galleries supported by wooden columns, a 17th century pulpit, and an 18th century baptismal font with ornate copper arches. The organ dates from 1792 and was built by Amsterdam organbuilder Johannes Stephans Strümphler. The church hosts chamber music, recitals and choral concerts, benefiting from good acoustics and seating approximately 125 people.
