About

The Zuiderkerk stands on the Zuiderkerkhof in Amsterdam's Nieuwmarkt district, a Dutch Renaissance church designed by Hendrick de Keyser and built between 1603 and 1611. It was the first Protestant church constructed in Amsterdam, and its architect is buried within its walls. The building carries layers of cultural history beyond its religious origins: Rembrandt had connections to the church, and Claude Monet painted it during one of his visits to the city. That combination of architectural distinction and art historical significance gives the venue a weight that few concert spaces in the Netherlands can match.
