Candlelight: Ed Sheeran & Coldplay

De Kleine Willem is one of four halls belonging to the Wilminktheater en Muziekcentrum in Enschede, a complex named after the Dutch poet and lyricist Willem Wilmink (1936 to 2003). The hall sits on Langestraat 45 and has a long history that predates its current institutional home. It was built at the start of the 20th century as a theatre café, later functioned as a cinema, and for many years formed part of the Twentse Schouwburg before being absorbed into what became the Wilminktheater. That layered past is still visible today: the room retains its original early century interior, giving it an atmosphere that the newer, larger halls in the complex simply cannot replicate. With seating for just under 300 guests, De Kleine Willem is the intimate option in the Wilminktheater's portfolio. The programming reflects that scale: cabaret, kleinkunst, music theatre, solo theatre and youth productions all find a place here, as do amateur companies looking for a proper stage rather than a hired rehearsal space. The combination of an authentic theatrical setting and a broad, accessible programme has made it a consistent fixture in Enschede's cultural calendar rather than a venue reserved for any single genre or audience. The hall is also set up to accommodate people with hearing difficulties through an FM sound amplification system, usable both with and without a hearing aid. Alongside that, the space is wheelchair accessible, with lifts, adapted toilets and reservable wheelchair spaces available.
