About
Rooted in Castlewood, Virginia, 49 Winchester carry the grit and soul of Appalachian music into territory that refuses to sit neatly in any one genre. Frontman Isaac Gibson has said he doesn't think of them as a country band or a rock band, but as an Appalachian band first and foremost. Their sound draws from country legends like Hank Williams, Merle Haggard, and Waylon Jennings, while Gibson also names Pantera and Lamb of God as genuine influences on the energy of their live shows. Rolling Stone compared them to Chris Stapleton and Drive By Truckers, which gives you a rough sense of the territory. After building a fanbase through years of relentless touring and three self released albums, they signed to New West Records and released Fortune Favors the Bold in 2022. Their fifth album, Leavin' This Holler, followed in 2024, produced by the band alongside Stewart Myers. The song Miles To Go got a notable boost when it was featured in the Paramount series Yellowstone, and their most recent upload, Changes, dropped in early 2025.
