About
Also known as: APTBS
Few bands commit to volume the way A Place to Bury Strangers do. The Brooklyn noise rock outfit built their reputation on ear shredding live sets long before anyone outside New York had heard of them, earning tags like "loudest band in New York" and "most ear shatteringly loud garage/shoegaze band you'll ever hear" from The Washington Post. The New York Times took note of their revival of the feedback drenched drone sound of the 1980s, and a well timed Pitchfork review in 2007 sent their self titled debut to a national audience fast. Frontman Oliver Ackermann, who also founded the guitar pedal company Death By Audio, has kept the band churning through lineup shifts and label changes across seven albums. After signing to Mute Records in 2009 and releasing records on Dead Oceans, the current trio of Ackermann with John and Sandra Fedowitz released See Through You in 2022. Their seventh album, Synthesizer, followed in October 2024, showing no signs of the band dialling anything back.
