About
Aaron Stainthorpe is the voice behind My Dying Bride, the British metal band he founded in 1990 that helped define death doom as a genre. Alongside Paradise Lost and Anathema, My Dying Bride was considered one of the so called Big Three of death and doom metal. The band's sound weaves together death metal heaviness, gothic atmosphere, and doom metal pacing, with violin and piano sitting right alongside the guitars and drums. Romantic, sensual lyrics and a near obsessive attention to atmospheric detail became their calling card from the start. Over the decades Stainthorpe and the band pushed through plenty of lineup changes and sonic shifts, from the more electronic textures of the mid period records back to the crushing doom of later work. Their most recent album, A Mortal Binding, arrived in 2024, preceded by the singles Thornwyck Hymn and The 2nd of Three Bells. Stainthorpe remains at the helm as vocalist, still shaping one of heavy music's most distinctively bleak and beautiful sounds.
