About

Abalone Dots built their sound around bluegrass and country, coining the term "softgrass" to describe their own take on the genre. The all female Swedish quartet started out playing festivals across the US before a 2005 Swedish television documentary brought them to a national audience, leading to a deal with Sony BMG. Their 2007 debut album From a Safe Distance reached number seven on the Swedish Albums Chart and featured notable collaborations, including a track with Marit Bergman addressing human trafficking and another with Kristofer Åström. Their second album Traveler, produced by Al Perkins, followed in 2008 and landed at number eight on the same chart. The band took home the Swedish Grammy for Best New Folk at the 2009 Grammisgalan and later entered Melodifestivalen 2012 with the song "På väg" in a bid for the Eurovision Song Contest, though they did not advance to the final. The group now performs as a trio after violinist Elin Mörk departed in 2010.
