About

Also known as: Albert Leornes Greene, Green, Al, アル・グリーン

Few voices have ever hit quite like Al Green's. The Memphis soul legend spent the early 1970s on a remarkable run, stacking up hits that still feel untouchable: "Let's Stay Together" went to number one on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the R&B charts, and songs like "Tired of Being Alone", "Love and Happiness", and "Take Me to the River" cemented his status as the defining soul voice of the era. Working closely with producer Willie Mitchell and the Hi Rhythm Section, he built a sound that was smooth, sensual, and deeply rooted in the South. By the late 1970s, Green shifted toward gospel and the church, becoming an ordained pastor and releasing a string of gospel albums through the 1980s. He even co starred with Patti LaBelle in the Broadway production of Your Arms Too Short to Box with God. His catalogue across both worlds earned him 11 Grammy Awards, a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and a ranking of number ten on Rolling Stone's list of the 200 Greatest Singers of All Time.
