Alabama Shakes

About

Alabama Shakes built their reputation the hard way, playing sports bars and country dives around the American South before the internet caught up with them. A single MP3 posted to a music blog in 2011 triggered a flood of label interest overnight, and the Athens, Alabama band signed to ATO Records shortly after. Their debut album Boys & Girls arrived in 2012 to near universal praise, with the single Hold On reaching number one on Billboard's Adult Alternative Songs chart and earning three Grammy nominations. The follow up, Sound & Color, landed even bigger: it debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and netted three Grammy wins, including Best Rock Song for Don't Wanna Fight. Their blues soaked, soul driven rock centers on the raw, commanding voice of frontwoman Brittany Howard, whose guitar work is just as distinctive. The band went on hiatus in 2018, but reunited in late 2024 and announced they were working on new music.
