About
Australian tenor Alasdair Kent has built a reputation as one of the more compelling voices in Italian bel canto, with a particular focus on Rossini and Mozart. His range is genuinely striking, he performed the notoriously demanding high F in the third act of Bellini's I puritani, the highest written note for a tenor voice, and critics have praised his diction, command of high tessitura, and stage presence across productions in some of Europe's most prestigious houses. Richard Bonynge presented him with the Joan Sutherland and Richard Bonynge Foundation Bel Canto Award in 2016, a telling endorsement for a singer still building his career. Since his European debut at the Rossini Opera Festival in 2017, Kent has appeared at the Opéra national de Paris, Wiener Staatsoper, Teatro alla Scala, Bayerische Staatsoper, and Gran Teatre del Liceu, among others. He has worked with conductors including Jane Glover, Diego Fasolis, and Ottavio Dantone, and taken on roles ranging from Lindoro and Don Ramiro to Tamino and Paolino.
