About
Alestorm have built an entire identity around the high seas, and it works. The Scottish heavy metal band from Perth leaned so hard into pirate themes that critics coined a genre just for them: pirate metal. The core sound blends power metal riffing with folk metal energy and Christopher Bowes' keytar front and centre, creating something that sounds like it belongs on a cursed galleon. Their fourth album Sunset on the Golden Age hit number one on the UK Rock Chart, and No Grave But the Sea later topped Billboard's Top Heatseekers Albums chart, proving the joke runs deeper than the novelty. Seven albums in, they show no sign of dropping anchor. Curse of the Crystal Coconut arrived in 2020 complete with a deluxe edition featuring so called "16th Century Versions" of every track, which is exactly the kind of commitment to the bit that fans love. Seventh Rum of a Seventh Rum followed in 2022, keeping the rum soaked momentum going. Live, they are a rowdy, crowd pleasing spectacle, and that reputation has earned them slots at major festivals and a dedicated global following.
