Few artists have built a cult following quite the way Alex G did, uploading a steady stream of lo fi bedroom recordings to Bandcamp in the early 2010s until word spread far enough that The Fader dubbed him "the internet's secret best songwriter." That grassroots buzz led to a deal with Orchid Tapes and his label debut DSU in 2014, which critics loved, and then a move to Domino Recording Company where he released Beach Music and the widely praised Rocket. Along the way he worked with Frank Ocean on Endless and Blonde, contributing guitars and arrangements. His sound sits somewhere between indie rock and bedroom pop, fuzzy and melodic in a way that draws comparisons to Elliott Smith and Built to Spill. House of Sugar and God Save the Animals cemented his reputation for dense, emotionally layered songwriting. He has also scored two films for director Jane Schoenbrun, We're All Going to the World's Fair and the A24 release I Saw the TV Glow. His tenth album Headlights arrived in July 2025 as his debut on RCA Records.
