About
Alexander Abreu is the trumpet player, singer and songwriter behind Havana D'Primera, the Cuban band he put together in 2008 by pulling in some of the finest musicians from the timba scene, many of them veterans of Issac Delgado's outfit. The result was a group that hit the ground running with their debut album Haciendo Historia in 2009. Since then, Havana D'Primera has kept a steady output going, with Pasaporte, La Vuelta al Mundo and Cantor del Pueblo following over the years. Away from the band, Abreu has taught trumpet at the National Art Schools in Havana and lectured on jazz and Cuban music at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen. He even stepped in front of a camera for the 2012 anthology film 7 Days in Havana, appearing in a segment directed by Emir Kusturica.
