Alexandra Conunova is a violinist from Moldova whose playing draws praise for its virtuosity, warm tone, and wide range of colour. She takes on some of the most demanding works in the repertoire, bringing real conviction to pieces like Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto, a work that has always sat at the heart of the classical canon. Joseph Joachim, who gave that concerto its premiere, described it as the most inward of the great German violin concertos, the jewel of the heart, and that combination of tenderness, inner depth, and clear brilliance without showiness suits Conunova's approach well. She handles its technical demands with ease while keeping the music's warmth at the centre.
