About
Almost Cocker is a ten piece ensemble from Tilburg built around the music of Joe Cocker. Rather than treating the repertoire as a set of museum pieces to be faithfully reproduced, the band approaches the songs as living material, reshaping them in the moment and giving each one room to breathe or pressing in close when the emotion calls for it. That interpretive instinct sits at the heart of what they do, which makes sense given that Cocker himself was always more of a reinventor than a copyist. With a lineup of ten musicians, the group can move between subtle, layered textures and full on outbursts within a single set. Reviews have noted that they sidestep the nostalgia trap that catches a lot of tribute acts, with the intensity of the performances doing most of the convincing.
